The Dominican Republic town of Santiago is found in the centre of this tropical island and is a popular tourist destination for those not looking for a beach only type holiday. Santiago offers visitors a wide range of attractions and it is still possible to make a day trip to the beach as well. Shopping is a fun and thrilling adventure along the Calle del Sol. This is the main shopping centre with various shops, parks, and hotels. If you want to mix with the locals then you have to visit Parque Duarte, which is a park just a little to the north of Calle del Sol.
Santiago Cigar Factory
Santiago’s points of interest include the Museo del Tobaco. The museum allows visitors to make a journey through the history of cigar making in the Dominican Republic and  Santiago and is an interesting and enjoyable tour. Visiting the rum and tobacco factories after your tour through the museum is an even more exciting thing to do in Santiago. Tours of the Bermudez Rum Factory and E. Leon Jimenez Tobacco Company are very popular among tourists.
Santiago Monument a los heroes de la restauracion
Santiago is a major agricultural area and is the source of much of the Republica Dominicana’s fruit, coffee, tobacco, and livestock. Things to do in this area are as simple as driving along the countryside and viewing these farming communities.  Other popular things to do in Santiago include a visit to the Cathedral of Santiago, the Tomas Morel Museum of Folkloric Art that has a collection of carnival masks, and the Monument a los Heroes de la Restauracion. This monument is locally known as the Monumento de Santiago and was designed by the architect Henry Gazón Bona and was completed in time to celebrate the Dominican Republic’s 100 years of independence. After the fall of the tyrannical rein of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina the name of Monument was granted to the Heroes of the Restoration
Cathedral of Santiago
During the day Santiago will seem like any other large city anywhere. After dark, however,Santiago becomes a party city. Clubs in Santiago offer a great way to enjoy the music and dance of Santiago and of the Dominican Republic. You will find there is a variety of music in the various clubs. The most popular music in the clubs in Santiago is bachata, merengue, papi papi, papi chulo and salsa.

Santiago, Dominican Republic offers guests the enjoyment of a quiet stay away from the crowded beach areas, but still near enough for a day trip to the sea for those who enjoy a mixture of rural and costal holidays.
